To help those who are especially disadvantaged, LBMT offers two programmes that support children. The LBMT Child Sponsorship Programme helps children that are unable to attend school as their families have little or no income to pay fees, uniforms or books. The Nutritional Feeding Programme supports malnourished children whose parents struggle to feed them or to give them a balanced, healthy diet.
The LBMT Child Sponsorship Programme
LBMT's Child Sponsorship Programme was established to enable the most disadvantaged children to attend St Matthew's School (Primary and Secondary) in Cyangugu Diocese and now provides 100 free places. The cost of sponsorship is £100 per year, helping to pay staff salaries through central funding.
Nutritional Feeding Programme
Run by the Mother's Union, Cyangugu Diocese, this important programme helps to feed many malnourished children with a weekly mug of nourishing porridge. There are approximately 300 children that are fed on Nkombo Island and other programmes are run in Kamembe and Bugarama. Earlier this year an LBMT supporter, who climbed Kilimanjaro, raised just over £6,000 and this is going to Nkombo Island.
