About Uganda

Uganda officially the Republic of Uganda, takes its name from the Buganda kingdom which encompasses a large portion of the south of the country including the capital Kampala. It gained independence from Britain on 9th October 1962 and since the 1980's has rebounded from a period of civil war and economic difficulties to become a relative peaceful, stable and prosperous country.

The country has won praise for its vigorous campaign against HIV/AIDS, which has helped to reduce the prevalence of the virus.
